Awesome Word - Serendipity

Serendipity, the accident of finding something good or useful without looking for it. There is also a movie, entitled 'Serendipity', which came out in 2001. I love the movie, i might have watched it 5 or 6 times i guess. Uncontestedly, Kate Beckinsale is totally hot. But those movies i love cannot depend solely on hot chicks. There is obviously more from this movie.

At first, i learnt a new word from the movie, the word 'serendipity'. I did some researches, it turned out that the word 'serendipity' is one of the hardest english word to translate. Sara Thomas (played by Kate Beckinsale) actually mentioned it in the movie. And i totally agree that serendipity is a beautiful word.

The movie has a typical plot, such as, when both are trying search each other but everything is in vain, they often missed the chance to meet each other by seconds, and they finally and eventually fall into each other by chance, or what people normally call, by fate, destiny or like the movie title, serendipity. But having a typical plot isn't necessary a bad thing. Stick to the plan, and it always works.

In fact this kind of plot is often being used in korean movies. I have watched a significant amout of korean movies. It was nice at first, but it gets boring after a dozen of same old cheesy stories. They are just not delicate and exquisite enough. Plus in korean movies, both the main characters and the world they live in are too perfect to be true.

This movie is clearly asking a question : Do you believe in destiny? Would you sacrifice anything in the pursuit of happiness, or of your true love, even every signs are telling you it is the wrong thing to do? I am pretty sure there are pros and cons about the idea of destiny. I used to on the con side. But i have realised, sometimes, we can't force things to happen, just like we can't simply force someone to love you. It is beyond our control, what we can do is just do our part and leave the rest to the destiny.

Until this day, nobody can tell for sure destiny is a truth or not, or is there somebody else is manipulating our every step and every move, like the movie 'the Ajustment Bureau'. I just think sometimes it is good to believe in destiny, since great love stories often related with destiny and i hope sometimes those are true stories.

A quote from the ending of the movie, "You know the greeks didn't write obituaries, they only asked one question after a man died, 'Did he have passion?'". So, do you have passion??
