Honestly I had zero expectation. I knew that it was recommended on Penang Foodie (see post). But I don't normally give much attention to this kind of hype on Facebook because there is simply an over-abundance of homemade bakeries on social media nowadays. So to my surprise, the ondeh-ondeh cake is so damn delicious.
To me, the esthetic is just ok, nothing of extraordinary. But OMG! The taste is at a level above many ondeh-ondeh cakes available out there. Every single detail is top-notch, or at least almost perfect. It is just airy enough, just sweet enough, just creamy enough; it contains just enough coconut, just enough pandan, just enough crunch. Any bit more or less would be subpar. Every bite makes me crave for more. I love ondeh-ondeh, but I think this cake has just transformed and then outclassed the traditional Malaysian dessert that it is based on.
I would proudly recommend this. Checkout their Instagram - @milk.and.honey.patisserie. My mom tasted it and now she is hooked. If it wasn't for the heavy lunch I had before I picked up the cake, I think I could have devoured the entire cake by myself in one go and then got so full that I would hate myself for having done it. This cake is dangerously addictive.
